Last month we picked 50 Indian SaaS companies — a mix of well-funded and bootstrapped — and asked ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's AI Overviews the exact questions their prospects would type: "best [category] software for small business," "alternatives to [competitor]," "is [category] worth it." We logged every answer verbatim.
The result stung a little, because ClicZeo works with several companies in this exact position: only 4 of the 50 brands were ever named. Not "ranked lower" — completely absent, even when their website ranked on page one of Google for the same query.
What the 4 winners had in common wasn't better design or bigger budgets. It was structured, quotable content: clear one-sentence definitions near the top of pages, comparison tables with named competitors, and FAQ sections answering the exact phrasing people search. The 46 that didn't get cited had strong SEO copy but nothing an AI model could lift cleanly into an answer.
We're not naming the companies publicly, but the pattern was consistent enough that we built it into a checklist (below) any SaaS team can run against their own site in under 20 minutes.
