Gemini in Chrome India: What Auto Browse Means for Brands

Chrome now has an assistant that does more than answer questions. It can act on websites for you. On 7 October 2026, Google announced that Gemini in Chrome is now available to all Android users in India. At the same time, auto browse became available on desktop and Android in India for AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers.

If you run a brand, an online store or a service website, this is more than tech news. Your product pages and forms may soon be read and used by an AI agent as well as by people.

The news at a glance

  • Gemini in Chrome reached desktops in India earlier this year. It is now also available to all Android users in India.
  • Auto browse is available in India on desktop and Android, but only for AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers. It is not a free feature.
  • Language limit: auto browse currently works only on devices set to English. Google says more languages are planned.
  • On Android, Gemini in Chrome initially supports US English and UK English, with other languages planned.

What can Gemini in Chrome do on Android?

According to Google, it can summarise long articles, answer questions about the web page you are viewing, and connect with Google apps such as Keep and Calendar without switching tabs. It can also help you create and edit images with Nano Banana.

What is auto browse, and who gets it?

Auto browse is the agentic part of Gemini in Chrome. Instead of only telling you what is on a page, it can take steps on the page for you. Google's own examples are booking parking for an event, filling out a long form, and ordering groceries for the week.

In India, it is limited to AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers, so not every Chrome user will have it yet.

Security and control

Google says these features are built to be secure by design, and that its models are trained to detect known threats such as prompt injection. Auto browse is also designed to ask for your confirmation before completing some sensitive tasks.

For brands, this suggests that a person may still approve final steps such as payment or order confirmation. But the journey before that point, including searching, comparing and filling in details, can be handled by the agent.

What this means for brands

Note: The recommendations below are the author's analysis and general best practice. Google has not published them as requirements.

1. Your customer may be a person plus an agent

When someone asks an assistant to "order this week's groceries", the agent may visit several sites, compare products and move items to the cart. A site that is easy for a machine to understand has a better chance of being chosen. This is where AEO (answer engine optimisation) and GEO (generative engine optimisation) meet ecommerce. Google is pushing the same direction in search too, as we saw with AI Mode product discovery in India.

2. Make product pages machine-readable

  • Add Product and Offer structured data (JSON-LD) with name, price, availability, rating and SKU. Our guide to structured data and schema markup covers the basics.
  • Show price, delivery charges, GST and delivery time as plain text, not only inside images.
  • Keep one clear product and one clear price per page, and avoid vague "from ₹X" pricing.
  • Present variants such as size and colour as clear buttons or dropdowns.

3. Build agent-friendly forms

Filling a long form is one of Google's own auto browse examples, so form quality matters.

  • Give every field a clear label and the right name and autocomplete attributes.
  • Use correct input types such as email, tel and date.
  • Write error messages in plain text, close to the field.
  • Remove unnecessary steps and fields, and show progress (for example, Step 2 of 3).

4. Use semantic and accessible HTML

A site that works well with screen readers usually works better for AI agents too. Use real button and link elements, a logical heading order, descriptive alt text and a sensible focus order. Avoid custom components that depend on unusual scripts for basic actions.

5. Reduce friction and dark patterns

Repeated pop-ups, forced sign-up walls and confusing buttons get in the way of both people and agents. Offer guest checkout, and keep security checks proportionate. Do not remove fraud protection, but avoid adding captchas and extra steps without a clear reason.

6. Publish clear trust information

Keep your return policy, warranty, contact details and FAQs in simple text, and mark up the FAQs with FAQPage schema. Clear answers are easier for both search and generative systems to use.

7. Prepare English now, and other languages next

Because auto browse currently needs an English device setting, clear English product information matters today. Google has said more languages will follow, so keep your Hindi and regional-language content accurate and well structured too.

8. Test and measure

  • Run auto browse on your own site with an AI Pro or Ultra account and note where it gets stuck.
  • Watch analytics for form drop-offs, cart-step exits and unusual session patterns.
  • Review bot rules and server settings so legitimate browsing is not blocked by mistake.

Conclusion

Gemini in Chrome reaching Android users in India, and auto browse arriving for AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, is changing what a "visitor" can be. For now, auto browse is limited to paid subscribers and English-language devices. The direction is clear, though. Websites that are easy for machines to read and operate will be better placed as agent-assisted shopping grows. Start with clean structured data, simple forms and transparent information.
